Using Cedar™ with SkySafari

Configuring SkySafari (version 6, 7, or 8; Plus or Pro edition) to work with Cedar (one-time setup). Instructions are for SkySafari v7.

  1. SkySafari Menu..Settings; Telescope..Presets

  2. Add Preset..Other Connection

  3. Meade LX200 GPS/ACF, LX600; Next

  4. Choose mount type:

    • GoTo: telescope movement instructions are displayed in Cedar Aim

    • Push-To: telescope movement instructions are displayed in SkySafari

  5. Connect via WiFi: IP Address 192.168.4.1, port 4030

  6. Check Connection; Next

  7. Preset Name: enter something like Cedar or Hopper

  8. Set Time & Location: check this box

  9. Readout rate: 10 (then swipe back)

  10. Save Preset

  11. Observe..Scope Display

  12. Disable Telrad Circles; define Field of View Indicator(s) for your scope

Using Cedar with SkySafari:

  1. With Cedar Aim running, switch your phone or tablet to SkySafari.

  2. On the bottom row of SkySafari icons, tap the Telescope icon.

  3. Tap Connect. SkySafari will show your telescope position.

  4. In SkySafari, select (or search for) an object of interest, and tap GoTo or Push-to.

  5. If GoTo: Switch your phone or tablet back to Cedar. The Cedar Aim screen displays movement instructions and updates them as you move your telescope.

  6. You can end the GoTo operation from either Cedar Aim or in SkySafari.
